Forgot (Uitasem)

POINT Art Hub, Bucharest

2019
A scene from Forgot (Uitasem): a man sits in a bathtub while a woman kneels beside him, against a tiled set.

Video

Forgot (Uitasem) is inspired by the real story of a boy from Galați, Romania, isolated by his mother in a garage and raised to believe he was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. The story appeared across television news in 2007–2008, then gradually disappeared from view. The production imagines what happens to the boy after the age of twelve, when he discovers he is a person like everyone else.

A story about memory, affection and things we thought we had forgotten, but which keep following us. A coming of age that starts in Galați, travels to Berlin and makes one last stop in Bucharest. A story about our need to matter, everyday messianism, what remains after first love, and the power of other people’s projections over our lives.

Two awards at Bucharest Fringe 2020. Selected for Caleido.
