About the project
A revue theatre is facing closure. Its manager places her last hope in a young director, brought in to create a production that will draw audiences back. His arrival sets different generations, experiences and ideas about theatre on a collision course.
As rehearsals begin, he turns to the lives of the company's actors, dancers and musicians. Their memories, fears and desires become part of the show, where reality and dreams begin to overlap. The process exposes tensions within the company and gives artistic differences an intensely personal dimension. Anonymous threats and unexpected incidents endanger the production on which they have all pinned their future.
Drama meets music, dance, video and the glitter of variety performance in a story about a fragile institution and the people keeping it alive. Caught between the nostalgia of past glory and an uncertain future, the artists struggle to defend their place on stage. With humour, affection and a critical eye, the production considers the cost of artistic survival and the contradictions of a theatrical tradition undergoing change.
Drama meets contemporary variety theatre through music, dance, video projections and bittersweet humour.
